I want to give a shout out to all the nurse managers out there who can balance such a precarious and important job. Of all the positions in the hospital, they are the ones who make or break an ED.

I have had the privilege to work with a few extraordinary ED Nurse Managers who had the back bone and communication skills to know their limitations, and set boundaries. At the same time they had the energy and drive to push forward, identify roadblocks, and accomplish things big and small. They did these things not to make friends or keep a job, but because it was the right thing to do.
